The 10 Best Leather Gaming Chairs

Best Leather Gaming Chairs

There’s nothing quite like the sleek and classy look of a leather gaming chair. The only problem is that it can be difficult to understand what you’re actually getting since there are so many different types of leather being used in gaming chairs.

You’ll hear different terminologies, such as PU leather, faux leather, full-grain, top-gran, bonded leather, and more!

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll review our top picks for the best leather gaming chairs on the market as well as explain the different types of leather being used to help clear up the confusion.

If you’re in the market for a leather gaming chair, you won’t want to miss this!

The Best Leather Gaming Chairs

Secretlab Omega – Best Luxury Leather Gaming Chair

*Note that the Secretlab OMEGA comes in PU Leather and Real Leather configurations. Be sure to read the product description to ensure you’ve selected the correct model you wish to purchase.

Our pick for the overall best leather gaming chair on the market is hands down the Secretlab OMEGA chair.

Secretlab currently offers two different options to choose from in terms of leather upholstery; PU Leather, and NAPA leather. Note that they also have a fabric upholstered option, but we won’t be discussing that for the sake of this post.

The PU Leather option is the faux leather material made from polyurethane. The PU leather 2.0 that Secretlab uses is some of the highest quality that I’ve seen in a gaming chair. It’s soft to the touch, which makes it comfortable to sit in. And since PU leather is synthetic, it’s easy to dye, meaning you can get a ton of unique, interesting color and design options.

The PU leather option is the standard offering from Secretlab and is also the most cost-effective.

However, the real star of the show is the NAPA leather upgrade option. NAPA leather is some of the highest quality genuine leather you can get in a chair. It is typically full-grain leather made from lamb or sheepskin and is used in many high-end luxury sports cars.

As a result, the Secretlab OMEGA with NAPA leather is my pick for the best luxury leather gaming chair. When sitting in this chair, the NAPA leather is not only soft and comfortable but also extremely durable. It has a classy, sleek design that you really can’t get in a typical gaming chair using faux leather.

The only two issues with genuine leather as opposed to PU leather.

One is that the NAPA leather can get quite warm during long sessions since the material does not allow for a lot of airflow.

Second, as you would probably expect, genuine NAPA leather is quite pricey compared to faux leather. You’re looking at about a $300 difference if you decide to upgrade to the NAPA leather version, but that’s the price you pay to have the best quality that will last.

Aside from just the upholstery options, the gaming chair itself is excellent in terms of comfort, build quality, features, and overall design. Out of all the gaming chairs I’ve tested, I’d say that Secretlab is currently at the top of the food chain in terms of aesthetics and functionality.

Whether you decide to go with the PU Leather option or the NAPA leather option, you won’t be disappointed.

Noblechairs Icon – Best Real Leather Gaming Chair

*Note that the Noblechairs Icon comes in PU Leather and Real Leather configurations. Be sure to read the product description to ensure you’ve selected the correct model you wish to purchase.

If you’re looking for another high-end real leather gaming chair, then the Noblechairs Icon could be a great choice for you.

I personally love the unique, eye-popping design and shape of the Noblechairs Icon. The curved, almost space ship like design is a breath of fresh air compared to most racing style gaming chairs that look like carbon copies of each other.

In terms of features, this chair features high-density cold-cured foam for maximum support and comfort. I personally found this chair to be a bit on the firm side, meaning you won’t sink in as far into the foam. This can make your butt sore when sitting for long sessions but will ensure that the chair is supportive and promotes good posture.

One thing that really impressed me with the Noblechairs Icon is the adjustability options.

In addition to the standard reclining, seat height adjustment, and lumbar support features, this chair also has an integrated rocking mechanism complete with a locking function that allows you to kick back and relax at the perfect angle every time.

Now, since this is a roundup of the best leather gaming chairs, let’s not forget about the upholstery options because this chair has plenty to choose from.

  • PU Leather. This faux leather polyurethane material is pretty much the industry standard. It’s soft, comfortable, looks great, and affordable. However, it’s not the most durable.
  • Vinyl/PU Leather Hybrid. This is also faux leather. It’s a combination of Vinyl (also referred to as PVC leather) and PU leather. This option gives you the comfort of PU leather with the durability of PVC leather.
  • Real Leather. This is the star of the show. Its authentic top-grain leather, which the second-highest quality leather you can get (next to full-grain). It’s durable, comfortable, and looks extremely elegant. The only drawback is that it’s quite expensive.

Overall, the Noblechairs Icone is an excellent gaming chair. I love the unique design and adjustment features of the chair. If you’re looking for one of the best real leather gaming chairs on the market, then the upgraded real leather upholstery is the way to go. The top grain leather is not quite as high quality as the Secretlab NAPA leather but is still an excellent option that’s a bit cheaper.

GTRACING – Best Budget PU Leather Gaming Chair

The GTRacing gaming chair offers everything you would expect from a high-end racing style gaming chair at less than half the price of the other premier brands.

My pick best budget PU leather gaming chair is the GTRACING racing style chair.

If you’re someone who wants to break into the realm of gaming chairs and don’t want to break the bank, then definitely check out GTRACING

My very first gaming chair was a GTRACING chair and I still own it today, despite having upgraded to other options on the market. I’m actually quite impressed that the chair held up this long considering it was less than $200.

In terms of design, the GTRACING gaming chair was clearly influenced by the DXRacer, which was the original chair that pioneered the whole racing style gaming chair in the first place.

For the price, you’re getting a fairly comparable chair, albeit with slightly lower quality materials and build quality.

The PU leather used on the GTRACING chair is soft to the touch, which makes it very comfortable. It might just be because mine has been broken in, but I actually found the PU leather of my GTRACING chair to be even softer and more comfortable than some of my more expensive chairs, such as my MAXNOMIC chair.

In terms of seat comfort, GTRACING chairs actually use memory foam padding instead of the cold-cure foam, mainly because it’s cheaper. Despite that, many people actually find memory foam padding to be more comfortable due to how soft it is. While the durability and supportiveness of the memory foam padding aren’t as good, especially if you’re a heavier person, I personally found the GTRACING chair to be quite comfortable for my specific frame.

Another positive aspect of the GTRACING chair is the aesthetic. These chairs come in a ton of different color configurations. If you’re someone who wants to swag out your gaming rig, then you’ll definitely be able to find a chair to look the part.

Overall, for a cheap PU leather gaming chair, the GTRACING chair definitely surprised me. I would certainly recommend it to a friend who’s new to gaming chairs and doesn’t want to break the bank.

$333.44

The Thermaltake X fit gaming chair is probably the most affordable gaming chair out there that actually uses real leather.

The Thermaltake X Fit gaming chair makes our list as the best value real leather chair.

The main reason this chair stuck out to us is the price.

While the quality of the leather upholstery certainly is not as high quality as the Secretlab NAPA or the Noblechairs Icon, it still uses genuine leather at a decently cheaper price.

In terms of design, the X Fit is pretty much a standard racing style chair design. It didn’t blow me away, but it’s still quite good. It does everything a racing style gaming chair is “supposed” to do without taking too many risks.

It features the standard headrest and lumbar support pillow, 4D adjustable armrests, 160-degree reclining, and a bucket seat design. One positive thing about this chair is that the steel frame construction and base are very sturdy, making this chair quite durable and built to last.

Other than that, I’d say this gaming chair is pretty much a run of the mill gaming chair, with the exception of the real leather upholstery, which most other gaming chair brands don’t offer.

If you’re someone who really has their heart set on a gaming chair that uses genuine leather, but doesn’t want to break the bank, then you might want to consider the Thermaltake X Fit Real Leather variant.

Steelcase Leap V2 – Most Comfortable Leather Gaming Chair

The Steelcase Leap is one of the top selling ergnomic chairs in the world due to its superior comfort, adjustability, and build quality.

The Steelcase Leap is one of the most popular ergonomic office chairs on the market. If you’re someone who likes to game for long sessions and also use it for work, then the Steelcase Leap is likely a better option than pretty much any other gaming chair on the market.

It certainly has a high price tag, costing upwards of $1,000 depending on how you configure it, but the Leap’s price is definitely justified when you factor in the long term health benefits due to its ergonomics, comfort, build quality, and adjustment features.

Unlike most gaming chairs, ergonomic office chairs like the Steelcase Leap, prioritize function over form. You’ll have various adjustment features, such as seat pan depth, sliding adjustable lumbar, back tension adjustment, and more. It has some of the best adjustable armrests I’ve seen in a chair with the ability to adjust the height, width, and pivot angle.

In terms of upholstery, while the Steelcase Leap is commonly known for using fabric, they do offer an upgraded leather option. You’ll definitely pay a premium for the leather, but that’s to be expected. The leather material is soft and comfortable, though not as breathable as the fabric option.

Overall, if you’re not into the traditional racing style gaming chair and want to invest in a high-end ergonomic chair suitable for long gaming sessions, then the Steelcase Leap is one of the most comfortable options on the market.

RESPAWN RSP-900  – Best Leather Gaming Chair Recliner

Best Gaming Recliner

The RESPAWN RSP 900 is a high-end racing style gaming chair. It features a pedestal reclining design suited for hardcore or relaxed casual gamers.

Most of the leather gaming chairs we’ve covered in this roundup were geared towards hardcore pc gaming.

But what if you’re someone who just likes to enjoy casual console gaming and watching movies?

If that sounds like you, then RESPAWN RSP-900 might be a good choice for you. This gaming chair is a pedestal style recliner gaming chair ideal for kicking back and relaxing.

While its design is reminiscent of a racing-style gaming chair, it is different in the sense that it does not have wheels.

Since this is a gaming recliner, it has a dedicated footrest that pulls out when you recline the chair for maximum comfort. Most computer gaming chairs are meant used in an upright position while you’re gaming.

Reclining gaming chairs are different in the sense that they are meant to provide a more casual and up relaxed sitting experience ideal for consuming media and playing console games with a wireless controller. I really like the fact that this chair has a built-in cup holder in the armrest, which makes it convenient when you’re watching movies.

For the upholstery, this chair uses PU leather that is soft to the touch and pretty comfortable.

The PU leather is easy to clean and maintain, which is particularly useful for a reclining chair like this since you’ll likely have drinks and snacks nearby while sitting in it.

If you’re someone who wants a comfortable and stylish recliner for your living room to consume media and play games on your TV, then I’d definitely recommend RESPAWN RSP-900.

If you’re someone who prefers a chair that’s a little bit more classy looking than a racing chair, then the La-Z-Boy Bellamy executive office chair might be a good pick for you.

While technically not a gaming chair, the La-Z-Boy Bellamy is more than capable of handling long gaming sessions with its comfortable high-back design and ergonomic lumbar support.

La-Z-Boy is known for making some of the most comfortable executive office chairs and recliners around. This chairs thick memory foam padding which is very comfortable to sit in. The chair contours to your body providing ergonomic support and pressure relief.

This executive chair also features height adjustment, recline, and tilt adjustments, making it ideal for hardcore gaming as well as kicking back and relaxing.

For the upholstery, the La-Z-Boy uses a bonded leather, which is a hybrid of genuine leather and PU leather. Bonded leather is classy looking, durable, and comfortable while still being affordable compared to a full-grain or top-grain leather chair.

It strikes the perfect balance between quality and price. If you want a good chair for gaming and getting work done, then definitely consider the La-Z-Boy Bellamy.

Vertagear PL6000 – Best Big and Tall Leather Gaming Chair

My pick for the best leather gaming chair for big and tall people is the Vertagear PL6000.

In general, I’ve been really impressed with Vertagear gaming chairs. They have several different lines of gaming chairs of all different shapes and sizes. Overall, the build quality and comfort of these chairs have been excellent across all of the different Vertagear chairs I’ve tried.

The Vertagear PL6000 is designed for big and tall individuals with a weight capacity of up to 440 lbs. The chair features a sturdy steel frame, aluminum alloy 5-star steel base, and industrial class-4 gas lift, making it durable and supportive for heavier people.

The PL6000 also uses what they call Ultra Premium High Resiliency Foam, which essentially means it is significantly denser than the industry standard. While this makes the seat feel a bit firm, this is good for heavier individuals because it provides the necessary support and keeps you from sinking too far into the chair.

This denser foam is also good for the overall durability, which is good for heavier folks because their weight can wear out the padding of chairs much quicker than lighter people, and cause the foam seat to sag.

For the upholstery, the Vertagear PL6000 uses PUC leather. This faux leather is a mixture of PVC Vinyl leather and PU leather, which provides a good balance between durability from the Vinyl and comfort from the softer PU leather.

If you’re looking for a solid big and tall leather gaming chair, then the Vertagear PL6000 could be a great choice for you.

RESPAWN RSP-110 – Best Leather Gaming Chair With Footrest

Best with Footrest
RESPAWN 110 Gaming Chair

If you're looking a racing style gaming chair with a footrest, then the RESPAWN 110 is one of the best options out there. Excellent quality at an affordable price.

Buy on Amazon

My pick for the best leather gaming chair with a footrest is the RESPAWN RSP-100.

This gaming chair is a nice budget racing style gaming chair that is versatile and feature-packed. For a gaming chair that costs less than $200, I was quite surprised by the build quality and construction.

It features 2D adjustable armrests, headrest, and lumbar support pillows, height adjustment, and 130-degree recline, which are all nice features to have in a cheaper gaming chair.

For the upholstery, this gaming chair RESPAWN claims that they are using bonded leather, which usually refers to a mixture between genuine leather and polyurethane, but for a chair at this price point, I’m pretty sure it’s just the standard PU leather that most other gaming chairs use.

Personally, I think the  RESPAWN RSP-100 actually looks really classy despite being a racing style gaming chair. The chair comes in several colors, but the contrast between these colors and the black PU leather gives the chair a sleek a subtle look that’s not too over the top.

The footrest is a nice addition to this chair especially considering the price. I found it pretty useful when I wanted to kick back and relax in the chair to watch a movie or videos. However, the footrest itself does not extend very far and it’s not the most sturdy. If you’re a taller, heavier person, then the footrest likely won’t be able to give you the support you need will probably only extend out to your calf area.

But aside from those minor gripes, I think the RESPAWN RSP-100 is a solid gaming chair for those on a budget.

Ficmax Gaming Chair – Best Leather Massage Gaming Chair

Best Massage Gaming Chair
Ficmax Gaming Chair

The Ficmax gaming chair is an excellent gaming chair for the price featuring high quality PU leather upholstery, 2D adjustable armrests, a massage lumbar support and a footrest.

My pick for the best leather massage gaming chair is the Ficmax gaming chair.

The Ficmax is a mid-ranged, feature-packed gaming chair. At just over $200, this gaming chair is an excellent bang for your buck.

Like most other gaming chairs in this price range, the Ficmax features the standard racing style design with PU leather upholstery. In terms of adjustability, it has a 180 degree reline, height adjustment, 2D armrests, and tilt/rocking mechanism. One standout here is the reclining feature. At 180 degrees, you can recline all the way back until you’re parallel with the floor, which is great if you want to take a nap in this chair. The built-in footrest is also a nice addition.

The main standout feature of the Ficmax gaming chair is its massage feature. Like most other racing style gaming chairs, the Ficmax uses pillows for the headrest and lumbar support.

However, the Ficmax gaming chair also has a vibration motor build right into the lumbar support, which is a nice feature if you’re someone who typically suffers from aches and pains in your back after long sitting sessions.

Types of Leather Used in Gaming Chairs

The different types of leather found in office and gaming chairs can be quite confusing since brands like to throw out inconsistent terminology to market their products. It can be difficult to know exactly what type of leather you’re getting with a chair; whether it’s faux leather, real leather, or a mix of both.

If you’re looking to buy a leather gaming chair, but are unsure of the different types of leather used in chairs, here is a detailed breakdown.

Faux Leather

The most common type of leather used in gaming chairs is faux leather. Fake leather made from synthetic materials is obviously a lot cheaper than genuine leather, which makes it more accessible to gamers, which is a generally younger audience with less disposable income.

Since gaming chairs cost somewhere between $200 -$500 on average, faux leather is necessary to keep the price low.

In addition, synthetic leather is a lot easier to dye than genuine leather, allowing a diverse range of color variations and design elements, which is one of the main appeals of gaming chairs in general. People tend to buy gaming chairs that represent their favorite teams, games, or setup.

Some advantages of faux leather include:

  • Inexpensive
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Easy to clean and maintain

Some disadvantages of faux leather include:

  • Not as high quality
  • Can get warm due to lack of airflow

Here are some of the most common types of faux leather used in gaming chairs.

PU Leather

PU Leather is a fake leather made from polyurethane. It is by far the most common type of leather used in gaming chairs. It is relatively inexpensive to produce, looks great, and is easy to dye different colors.

In addition, PU leather is very comfortable to sit in because it is generally pretty soft.

PVC Leather

PVC leather is not nearly as common as PU leather. It is a faux leather material made from vinyl. The main difference between PVC leather and PU leather is the coarseness of PVC leather. PVC leather is very durable, but since it is a firmer material, it is typically not as comfortable as PU Leather.

Some Vertagear gaming chairs try to take the best of both worlds with their PUC leather material, which is essentially a hybrid of Vinyl PVC leather for durability and PU leather for comfort.

Genuine Leather

If you’re looking for best-in-class upholstery in your gaming chair, then genuine leather is the way to go.

Some advantages of genuine leather gaming chairs include:

  • Very high quality
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Durable
  • Easy to clean and maintain

Some disadvantages of genuine leather gaming chairs include:

  • Expensive
  • Can get warm due to lack of airflow

Here is a breakdown of some of the different types of real leather you’ll find in certain gaming chairs.

NAPA Leather

NAPA Leather is some of the highest quality leather available on a gaming chair. It is typically full-grain leather made from lamb or sheepskin and is often used on some high-end luxury sports cars. An example of a gaming chair that offers a NAPA leather option is the Secretlab OMEGA. Its quality is top-notch but can be quite pricey.

Full-Grain Leather

Full-Grain leather is the highest quality of leather available. According to MAHI full-grain leather refers to the strongest and most durable part of the hide of an animal and has not been sanded, buffed, or snuffed, which makes it display the most natural characteristics of leather.

Top-Grain Leather

Top-Grain Leather is the second-highest in quality in terms of genuine leather. According to SFGate Top-grain leather means leather that has been made from the top or outermost layer of cowhide. The major difference between top-grain and full-grain leather is that top-grain leather has been buffed or sanded to remove blemishes, while the full-grain leather displays the natural characteristics of the leather without correction.

Bonded Leather

Bonded leather is a type of hybrid leather that is much more commonly used than genuine leather in executive office and gaming chairs due to the price. According to BTOD, bonded leather is a mix of leftover scraps found from processing genuine leather with a polyurethane binding.

Bonded leather is significantly cheaper than full-grain leather, which makes it a good choice for chairs. It’s a nice compromise that allows you to have a classy looking chair with the characteristics of genuine leather, without completely breaking the bank.

How to Choose the Best Leather Gaming Chair – Buyer’s Guide

Type of Leather

When choosing a leather gaming chair, you’ll obviously need to decide which type of leather you’ll want to go with. While all of the gaming chairs on this list are marketed as “leather”, not all leather material is created equal.

The majority of the gaming chairs on the market use PU leather which is a synthetic leather material made from polyurethane. PU leather is a good option for gaming chairs because it can be easily dyed to achieve the bright and vibrant colors that gaming chairs are known for. In addition, PU leather is soft, easy to maintain, and inexpensive to produce.

Some gaming chair companies, such as Secretlab and Noblechairs, offer upgrade options for genuine leather upholstery. Real leather is obviously a lot more expensive than faux leather, but makes the chair look and feel more luxurious. Genuine leather is also a lot more durable than faux leather, which means it will ultimately last much longer. The only drawback to real leather is that it can get warm due to the lack of airflow.

Ergonomics

If you’re going to be gaming for long sessions, then having a chair that is ergonomic and comfortable is absolutely essential.

This will ultimately boil down the overall design of the chair as well as the adjustment features. People come in all different shapes and sizes, meaning a chair’s comfort is really a matter of personal preference.

The most common design for gaming chairs is a racing-style design. In general, while these chairs look great, they are not the most ergonomic compared to other more traditional office chairs. However, some racing chairs are better than others, offering more adjustment features, better support, and higher quality materials.

If the fancy, over-the-top racecar design isn’t for you and you truly want a chair with the best ergonomics, then you might want to go with a traditional ergonomic office chair like the Steelcase Leap V2. These high-end ergonomic chairs solely focus on comfort, offering more adjustment features and typical gaming sessions, essentially making them a one size fits all.

Build Quality

Another factor to pay attention to when choosing a leather gaming chair is the overall build quality.

Not all gaming chairs are created equal, despite many of them looking the same on the outside. Since many companies, mass-produce their gaming chairs in China, there can definitely be some quality control issues when buying from lower-tier brands.

One thing to pay attention to is the chair’s overall frame and 5-star base. You’ll want to make sure that the chair is using a sturdy steel frame. Some cheaper chairs use a plywood frame, which is obviously not the most durable long term.

In addition, you’ll want to pay attention to the type of foam padding used throughout the chair. Higher-end chairs typically use high-density cold-cure foam which is more durable and less likely to sag, especially if you’re a heavier person. Many low-end chairs will use cheaper memory foam padding. While this material soft and comfortable at first, it tends to sag and compress over time as you sit in it.

As you can probably imagine, the more you pay for a chair, the better the build quality. That said, you don’t necessarily need the most expensive chair. It’s all a matter of finding the right balance between price and build quality based on your specific needs. If you’re someone who spends more than 8 hours per day sitting in a chair or are a heavier individual, then you might want to invest in a heavy-duty chair that will last. If you’re someone who casually games and wants a fancy looking chair to match your setup, then you don’t need to spend a ton on a gaming chair.

Features

When choosing a leather gaming chair, you’ll want to pay close attention to the specific features of the chair to ensure you’re choosing something that meets your needs.

Some of the typical features you should expect to see in a gaming chair include:

  • Headrest and lumbar support pillows
  • Height adjustment
  • Adjustable armrests
  • Reclining feature
  • Tilt mechanism

Aside from these common features found on practically every racing style gaming chair some other features to look for include a footrest, Bluetooth speakers, massage motor, seat pan depth adjustment, etc.

Depending on whether you’re a hardcore computer gamer or a casual console gamer, you might want to consider certain features that will enhance your experience.

Price

At the end of the day, the chair you ultimately decide on will come down to your specific budget.

Most people don’t have an unlimited amount of money to invest in a chair. Obviously, the higher-end chairs with genuine leather, higher quality materials, build quality, and adjustment features will objectively be the best chair. But not everyone is in a position where they can drop over a grand on a gaming chair.

However, if you spend the majority of your day at the computer and suffer from back pain, then investing in a higher-end gaming chair might be worth it for you in the long run.

If you’re someone who is on a budget, but still wants a sleek looking leather gaming chair, then there are plenty of options available for you as well. While these lower-end gaming chairs will use faux leather instead of genuine leather, they’ll still offer pretty much all of the essential features you would need in a chair.
