Secretlab Titan Evo Review: Our Insights

Now, let’s jump into my actual review of the chair. I’ll break things down into several main categories that I think you should consider if you’re looking to buy a gaming chair.

For those of you who already have an older Secretlab Titan or Secretlab OMEGA chair, I’ll point out some of the differences with the new Titan Evo series to help you decide whether it’s worth upgrading to, or if you’re a new buyer and want to save a few bucks by purchasing the older model.

Build Quality

When purchasing a gaming chair, arguably the most important factor to consider is the overall build quality of the chair. If you’re going to be investing upwards of $400 on a chair, you’ll want to make sure it’s using premium materials and put together well to ensure that it’ll last you years to come.

In terms of build quality, Secretlab has always been at the top among gaming chairs in my opinion. You’ll definitely pay a premium compared to other gaming chair brands, but I’m confident that the chair will last you for years to come.

Unlike most of the cheaper gaming chairs that you’ll find on Amazon, the Secretlab Titan Evo uses a denser foam, which Secretlab refers to as their Cold-Cure foam, which will last much longer without sagging. In addition, Secretlab chairs use high-quality upholstery materials, which are not as likely to peel or flake.

Aside from that, the chair is just built well. All of the components fit together cleanly and tight with no loose or rickety parts, which ultimately makes for the best sitting experience in the long run. There is a good amount of steel used in the frame and base of the chair, which makes it heavy-duty and durable. And while there are some plastic components used for the armrests and levers, nothing feels cheap like its going to break.

Overall, I think Secretlab chairs are a cut above the rest in terms of build quality for gaming chairs and the new Titan Evo Series is no exception.

Aesthetics

Another area that I really think Secretlab Chairs shines in is the looks department. In my opinion, Secretlab chairs are some of the best-looking gaming chairs on the market.

They have dozens of different design options, meaning there is something for everyone. Personally, I’m not a fan of the bright, flashy “Gamer” look and prefer a chair that looks more classy since I feel it’s more suitable for productivity and gaming.

I opted for the Softweave version which I think looks whether it’s in a hardcore gaming setup or a modern home office. The standard NEO Hybrid Leatherette and NAPA Leather upholstery options also do a great job at keeping a modern, classy look without going too over the top.

However, if you’re someone who DOES prefer the flashy gamer look, then Secretlab has you covered there as well. Secretlab offers dozens of different design options for the Secretlab Titan Evo that are based on popular video games, eSports teams, and more. There are options that are suited for pretty much anything. If you’re someone who wants to rep your favorite eSports team, or are a huge fan of a particular game, then these options are definitely something you should look out for.

Size Options

One of the most welcomed upgrades with the new 2022 Titan Evo series is the introduction of size options. The 2020 Series Titan chair only came in two variations; the regular and the XL, both of which were pretty large. If you’re a smaller individual like myself, 5’6, then the regular Secretlab Titan was still too big to fit me comfortably.

If you’re a smaller person, you would need to opt for the Secretlab OMEGA chair, which was designed for smaller people but sacrificed several key features, such as the built-in lumbar support and open seat design.

With the new Secretlab Titan Evo series, they have addressed this by having a small, regular, and XL version to accommodate people of all sizes. Finally, smaller individuals can enjoy the premium features of the Secretlab Titan. This seemed like a no-brainer and should have been implemented years ago, but it’s finally here.

Ergonomics

When it comes to ergonomics, Secretlab has always been a cut above the rest when compared to other racing-style gaming chairs.

With the new Titan Evo series, Secretlab made some much-needed improvements over the 2020 series chairs in terms of ergonomics, particularly with the built-in lumbar support.

The Titan Evo now gives you the ability to adjust the depth and height of the built-in lumbar support, which is a huge upgrade from the previous model, which only allowed you to adjust the depth.

Combine this with the fact there the Titan Evo is offered in various size options, which means that you’ll definitely be able to find a comfortable seating position for your specific preferences.

One of my major problems with the old model is that since the Titan was a bit too big for me, I could never set the lumbar support in a way that actually felt comfortable since there was no height adjustment.

The Evo fixed these issues and as a result, I feel like this chair is still by far the most comfortable racing style chair I’ve tested.

That said, racing chairs, in general, will never match the ergonomics of a similarly priced ergonomic office chair that’s specifically meant for upright sitting. Ergonomic office chairs will typically fit the natural curve to your spine better and offer a wider variety of adjustment options, which definitely something to keep in mind.

However, if you want a versatile gaming chair that is pretty good for upright sitting, but also allows you to lounge, sit cross-legged, and recline all the way back, then the Secretlab Titan is probably the most ergonomic relative to other gaming chairs.

Adjustability

Now, let’s talk about some of the adjustability options the Secretlab Titan Evo has to offer. In general, I’d say this chair features everything you would expect from a premium gaming chair.

As I mentioned, a gaming chair typically won’t have as many adjustability options as a dedicated ergonomic office chair, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction as far as racing-style chairs are concerned.

Armrest Adjustment

The Secretlab Titan Evo features 4-D armrest adjustability, which is pretty standard on the higher-end gaming chairs these days.

They allow you to adjust them up and down, side to side, forwards and backward, and rotate, giving you the freedom to set the armrests however you’d like for the given situation.

When I’m typing, I usually like to level them with the desk to support my forearms. When I’m playing console games with a controller, I like to rest my elbows on them. When I’m playing guitar, I like to lower them and move them out of the way. Regardless of the situation, I found that the armrests can easily be adjusted to preference.

In addition, the adjustment mechanisms are smooth and sturdy, which is great to see. My only gripe is that the armrest pads themselves are still a bit rickety, which is the same issue I pointed out in my review of the Titan 2020 series.

Tilt and Recline

Not much has changed with the tilt and recline mechanisms in the Titan Evo. That said, they’re still some of the best I’ve seen in a gaming chair.

The tilt and recline allow you to lay nearly parallel with the floor, which is great for lounging, resting, or even napping. I personally use the recline feature whenever I want to kick back and watch movies.

You can also adjust the tilt and recline independently from each other with a lever that controls the recline and a plastic tab that locks and unlocks the tilt mechanism. You can also adjust the tension of the tilt mechanism with a knob below the chair.

My only minor complaint here is that you can’t adjust the tension knob while seated in the chair due to where it’s positioned underneath the seat.

Other than that, I feel like the tilt and recline features on this chair are well built and I’m confident that I won’t fall over in my seat.

Comfort (Seat, Back, and Arm)

Now, let’s talk about how comfortable the chair is. I typically like to break down the chair’s comfort into several different categories that you should be considering when finding the right chair for you.

Seat Comfort

Seat comfort is probably the most important factor to consider when choosing a chair since this is where most of your weight will be supported.

The Secretlab Titan Evo’s seat uses the same cold-cure foam as last year’s model, so the feel is pretty similar. Just like last year’s model, I found the seat relatively firm compared to most other gaming chairs I’ve tried. It’s supportive, yet still comfortable. Just don’t expect to get a soft, sink-in feeling as you would with a memory foam seat.

Personally, I would like it if the Evo was a little bit softer, but that just comes down to personal preference. Also, keep in mind that how firm a chair feels to you will vary based on your weight.

One change from the Titan Evo compared to the 2020 series is the actual shape of the chair. For the new model, Secretlab introduced their pebble seat design, which is essentially a combination of the old Titan and OMEGA.

While the seat is still relatively open, it does have slight side bolsters similar to what you would find on most racing-style chairs, though not nearly as pronounced.

Honestly, I was a bit nervous about this new seat design, since one of the best selling points for the Evo over the OMEGA was the open seat design. Having an open seat design makes the seat much more spacious and allows for cross-legged sitting. On the other hand, having side-bolsters restricts the movement of your legs and gives you a much more snug feeling.

Luckily, in my experience with the Titan Evo, the side bolsters were not an issue at all due to the fact that they are not nearly as pronounced as they are on the OMEGA. Also, they are heavily padded in the cold-cure foam material, rather than being made from the metal frame of the chair, making them soft.

I found that I was still able to sit cross-legged on this chair with no issues, which is a major benefit over most racing-style gaming chairs. Also, when sitting in the chair, the side bolsters do give you a more snug feeling than the previous Titan, but not nearly as restrictive as the OMEGA due to the soft, padded side bolsters.

Back Comfort

One of the most improved aspects of the new Titan Evo is the back comfort, and this is due to the updated lumbar support. As previously mentioned, the Secretlab Titan Evo now allows you to adjust the depth and height of the built-in lumbar support. This is a much-welcomed feature as it allows you to properly adjust it to where it feels comfortable for you based on your specific height and preferences.

In my opinion, Secretlab has always been a step ahead of the competition in terms of back support with the Titan and this newer version just widens the gap. Most gaming chair brands opt for the lumbar support pillow, which is significantly worse for back support. If you’re someone who is prone to back pain, then the Secretlab Titan Evo definitely gets my recommendation as far as gaming chairs go.

Arm Comfort

Not too much has changed in terms of the actual armrests of the chair on the Titan Evo. They did add magnetic, removable armrest pads. This is meant to allow you to swap out the armrest pads with different material pads that Secretlab will be releasing in the future. I have seen pre-production models of gel armrest pads, but have not had the opportunity to test them out yet.

Aside from that, the armrests are what you would expect from most higher-end gaming chairs. They offer 4D adjustability which is great for people who like to set their armrests in various positions for different tasks. Overall, they’re pretty comfortable, but still feel a bit rickety. This was a problem I had on my previous Secretlab Titan, so it’s a bit unfortunate to see the issue here again on the Titan Evo.

Headrest Comfort

For the headrest, the Secretlab Titan Evo uses a memory foam pillow, which is the same material as the previous models. The major difference is that now it attaches to the chair magnetically rather than with an elastic band.

This allows you to easily adjust the pillow in any position whether you want it to support your head or cradle the back of your neck.

It’s a cool new novelty feature and makes the chair look a lot better as well. I appreciate the fact that Secretlab is constantly trying to innovate in its chairs. However, my gripe with these features is that I found the magnets to not be strong enough.

When moving the chair, I would often find the pillow falling off, which can get annoying over time. It’s definitely not a deal-breaker, but something to point out nonetheless.

Secretlab Titan Evo Review: Buying Experience

When purchasing a gaming chair, many people overlook the overall buying experience. This is especially true for cheaper gaming chairs.

However, if you’re planning on investing in a premium gaming chair you plan to keep for many years, you’ll want to consider factors such as shipping, assembly, warranty, and return policy.

Shipping

In terms of shipping, Secretlab typically delivers within 3 business days in the United States. They use either FedEx or UPS, so you’ll have access to tracking information. If you’re outside of the United States, then it may take longer and you may face delays depending on their stock and availability. However, I had no issues with shipping whatsoever.

Upon delivery, I found the box more compact than the previous version of the Evo, which is nice. It still weighed about 60-80lbs, so I would suggest having a friend assist you with it, especially if you need to bring it upstairs.

Aside from that, the chair was really well packaged, with no damage to any of the components.

Assembly

The assembly process for the Secretlab Titan Evo is pretty easy and straightforward. I definitely would not consider myself a handyman, but it only took me roughly 20 minutes to fully assemble alone.

Secretlab also includes an oversized card stock with instructions printed on them with high-quality diagrams that were easy to follow.

In addition, all of the required tools are included in the box and many of the screws are actually pre-screwed into the chair so there’s no question if you’re using the right screw.

Since all of the components of the chair are well built and high-quality, all of the pieces fit together effortlessly as they should. With cheaper chairs, you’ll usually find that screws and holes don’t always line up properly, and you need to fiddle with it, or force the pieces into place.

I’m happy to report that this was not the case with the Secretlab Evo.

Warranty

Secretlab offers a 3-Year limited warranty on their products which covers all functionality portions of the chair. However, this warranty does not cover aesthetic defects and damage from the misuse of the chair. You can learn more about Secretlab’s warranty policy here.

Return Policy

Secretlab offers a 49-day return/refund policy if your unit is defective or does not meet Secretlab’s quality standards. If you’re unhappy with your purchase, you can freely return the chair, though you may be subject to return fees. You can learn more about Secretlab’s return policy here.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to racing-style gaming chairs, I honestly think that Secretlab remains on top with its new Secretlab Titan Evo. It added a ton of welcomed features including an upgraded adjustable lumbar support, various size options, and a magnetic headrest pillow. If you’re looking for the best of the best when it comes to gaming chairs, and are willing to pay a premium for it, then I would definitely recommend the new Secretlab Titan Evo over just about any other gaming chair on the market.
