Secretlab Titan Review: Our Insights

Now, let’s jump into my actual review of the chair. After thoroughly testing this chair for about one month as my main chair, here are my thoughts. I have broken this review into several categories that I feel are important considerations when choosing the best gaming chair for you.

Build Quality

When purchasing a gaming chair, the most important aspect that you need to look at is the overall construction and build quality. This will ultimately affect your experience with the chair over the long term.

There are hundreds of cheap, generic gaming chair brands floating around. And many of them actually look pretty good at surface level.

However, the construction and quality of materials used are the main differentiator between the cheap gaming chair copies you see online and a premium gaming chair manufacturer like Secretlab.

The Secretlab Titan has the best build quality I’ve seen in a gaming chair. You can tell that it’s durable and built to stand the test of time. It has a sturdy steel frame, which is significantly stronger than the aluminum that many other cheaper gaming chairs use. This is especially important for heavier people since they need something that will be able to support their weight over years.

The chair also uses a lot of metal all around the chair as well in areas such as the armrest mechanisms and base.

You can immediately tell that this chair is built well due to how heavy it is. This chair weighs over 60lbs, which can make it a bit difficult to move around, but definitely worth the tradeoff.

Overall, the Secretlab Titan gets high marks from me in terms of build quality. If you’re going to be investing hundreds of dollars on a chair, you’ll want to make sure it’ll be durable enough to last you for years. You’d be hard-pressed to find a gaming chair that’s built as well as the Secretlab Titan. I’ve owned cheaper gaming chairs that felt wobbly and rickety after a year or two, so this area is definitely something you want to think about.

Aesthetics

If you’re in the market for a gaming chair, then aesthetics are likely an important factor for you. Otherwise, you could just buy a standard office chair for less, that would probably give you equal comfort.

However, as gamers, we want to look cool. This is why the flashy design of gaming chairs is appealing to us because it allows us to express ourselves and show off a little.

In terms of aesthetics, Secretlab chairs are at the top of the game.

Starting off with the design of the chair itself, I really like their take on the traditional racing-style chair. I feel like they’ve opted for a more subtle approach compared to other racing-style chairs that are a bit over the top in my opinion. Personally, I feel like the design and overall shape of the Secretlab Titan is a bit more classy than the typical racer chair.

In terms of the upholstery, Secretlab chairs have a whole slew of options to choose from, whether you want something sleek and subtle, or you want something over the top flashy to rep your favorite eSports team.

The chair that was provided to me for this review is the Secretlab Stealth edition. This is their baseline model. I feel like the Stealth edition suits me really well because I’m not personally the type who likes bright, vibrant, neon colors for my chair. I feel like the Stealth model gives you a modern look that is suitable for gamers or as a primary office chair if you want to get work done.

On the other hand, if you’re someone who wants that flashy, gamer look, Secretlab offers dozens of special editions based on popular eSports teams and video games as well.

Ergonomics

Another factor you’ll want to consider when purchasing a gaming chair is ergonomics. This is especially true if you’re someone who spends the majority of your day sitting and plans to use it as your primary office chair.

It’s important to have a good chair that conforms to the natural shape of your body to promote good posture and prevent aches and pains down the line.

Unfortunately, gaming chairs tend to get a bad rep in this department compared to traditional ergonomic office chairs (and it’s generally well deserved).

The typical racing style design may not be the most optimal in terms of ergonomics. However, since gaming chairs are meant to be ideal for upright sitting AND lounging, it’s the trade-off they need to make.

While the Secretlab Titan isn’t perfect in terms of ergonomics, it does do a fairly good job compared to most other gaming chairs on the market.

One welcomed improvement that the Secretlab Titan does over much of the competition is the built-in adjustable lumbar support instead of the lumbar pillow found in most other gaming chairs.

The Titan has a knob on the side that allows you to adjust the lumbar support based on your particular needs.

While the Titan is nowhere near the level of premium office chair-like options from Herman Miller or Steelcase in terms of ergonomics, it’s definitely a step in the right direction compared to other gaming chairs.

And for what it’s worth, I didn’t experience any pain after a month of using the Secretlab Titan exclusively, even as someone coming from a Herman Miller Aeron as my primary chair.

Adjustability

Another major factor to consider when purchasing a gaming chair is adjustability. People come in all different shapes and sizes. Therefore, it’s important for a chair to provide adjustment options to accommodate a wide variety of users’ preferences.

Height Adjustment

In terms of height adjustment, the Secretlab Titan does a pretty decent job, though is meant to be for slightly taller individuals. In terms of size, the Titan is the middle option and is recommended for people who are 5’9” – 6’7”.

As someone who is only 5’6” I could definitely tell that this chair is a bit big for me, though it’s still manageable. At its lowest point, my feeling could still touch the ground, though it’s pushing it a bit since, at that point, the edge of the seat is up against the inside of my knees.

Secretlab does offer a smaller chair in the form of the Secretlab OMEGA, however, that model lacks the built-in adjustable lumbar support and has a traditional racer style design with pronounced side bolsters, which is enough to make me opt for the Titan regardless of my height.

In terms of the actual height adjustment mechanism, I think it’s really good. It features a class 4 hydraulic gas piston, which raises and lowers smoothly. In my time using the chair, I haven’t noticed any sagging at all from my weight in the chair. So overall, no complaints here, though we’ll see how it holds up after years of use.

Lumbar Adjustment

The lumbar adjustment is one of the main standout features of the Secretlab Titan over other racing-style gaming chair brands, and even Secretlab’s own OMEGA chair.

The Secretlab Titan features a built-in adjustable lumbar support. There is an adjustment knob on the side of the backrest that allows you to adjust the overall depth of the lumbar support. This allows you to set it to your desired preference that matches the natural curve of your spine.

One gripe I had with this lumbar support is that you cannot adjust the height, but rather only the depth. Since I’m on the short side, I wasn’t able to get the lumbar support to hit the sweet spot of my back where the natural curve of my spine would be. Though this chair is designed for people a bit taller than my height, it would have been nice to have some height adjustment since some people prefer the lumbar support either lower or higher.

In terms of comfort, while I think this is a nice improvement over a lumbar pillow, it definitely doesn’t compete with the adjustable lumbar supports found in many of the mid to high-end ergonomic office chairs on the market.

Armrest Adjustment

The Secretlab Titan features 4D armrests allowing you to adjust them in pretty much any way you like. You can raise them, lower them, move them sideways, forwards, back, and even adjust the angle they’re pointing, giving you plenty of options to support your elbows while typing at your desk.

Overall, the quality of the metal adjustment mechanisms is quite good, allowing for smooth movements in any direction.

My only gripe here is that the actual armrests covered in the PU material can feel a bit loose and rickety at times, which can be annoying, though not a huge deal when the weight of your arms is pressing down on them. This is actually a problem with most gaming chairs I’ve used, but I was hoping that the Secretlab Titan would fix this since it is a premium gaming chair priced higher than much of the competition.

Tilt and Recline

One of the best aspects of the Secretlab Titan are the tilt and recline mechanisms. The tilt mechanism allows you to actually tilt the seat back and lock it into place at any position. As someone who used to always lean back in their chair back when I was in school, this was definitely a feature I took advantage of myself. It’s also good for those who just like to rock back and forth.

The Secretlab Titan’s backrest also allows for an 85-165 degree recline. When combined with the seat’s tilt mechanism, the Titan allows you to lay back nearly parallel to the floor. I think this feature makes it excellent for lounging. I would constantly find myself reclining back when watching movies and shows, and even fell asleep in it a few times.

Comfort (Seat, Back, and Arm)

So we’ve talked about the overall build quality, materials, and features of the chair. Now, let’s put it all together and talk about how all of this translates to how comfortable the chair is. We can break this down into a couple of different aspects including seat comfort, back comfort, and arm comfort.

Seat Comfort

For padding, this chair uses Secretlab’s cold-cure foam. The first thing I noticed about the seat is that it’s much firmer than I thought it would be. Compared to most other gaming chairs I’ve tested, this chair is definitely one of the firmest. While the firmness level of a chair ultimately boils down to personal preference, I feel like this might be a turnoff for some people.

That said, this padding definitely does a good job of providing support for your body. One advantage to this firmer material is that it will be less prone to sagging over time, especially for heavier individuals. This is a common issue that many cheaper gaming chairs face that use standard memory foam padding.

My favorite part of the Secretlab Titan’s seat is the fact that it has an open seat design, rather than the typical bucket seat design with side bolsters that most racer-style gaming chairs use.

This open seat design makes it much more spacious, allowing you to sit cross-legged. This makes the Secretlab Titan great for those who want to use their chair for lounging and consuming content in addition to gaming. For me, this feature alone makes it worth upgrading from the Secretlab OMEGA.

Back Comfort

In terms of the backrest comfort, I’d say the Secretlab Titan is better than most racing-style gaming chairs, but definitely leaves something to be desired when compared to traditional ergonomic office chairs.

Like every racing-style gaming chair, the backrest of the Secretlab Titan is completely flat. It does not have a curve to match the natural shape of your spine, which isn’t the best for your posture over time because it can result in slouching.

That said, the Secretlab Titan does feature a built-in adjustable lumbar support, unlike most other gaming chairs that only have a lumbar pillow. It’s a welcomed addition but definitely falls short compared to lumbar supports found in traditional ergonomic office chairs.

On the other hand, while the Titan isn’t necessarily the most ergonomic chair out there, it does double as a chair that you can use for lounging and relaxing. It has an excellent recline and tilt feature which is great for kicking back and watching movies.

So, while this chair isn’t the best ergonomic chair, it shines in its ability to be a multi-purpose chair that’s decent for upright working and lounging.

Arm Comfort

The Secretlab Titan features 4D armrests that allow you to adjust them in a variety of ways based on your preferences. They’re especially useful at supporting your elbows while you’re typing, allowing you to keep your arms parallel to the desk.

In terms of feel, the armrests are covered in a polyurethane material, which is slightly soft to the touch. Overall, I feel like these are in line with most other racing-style gaming chairs. While they get the job done, they definitely don’t feel as high quality and comfortable as armrests found in ergonomic office chairs, such as options from Herman Miller or Steelcase.

Also, one gripe I had about these armrests is that you can’t move them out of the way if you prefer not to use them. The lowest height adjustment is still too high and you can’t adjust them sideways far enough so that they are out of your way.

As a guitar player, armrests on chairs tend to get in the way while I’m trying to hold it, so it’s a shame that I can’t move them out of the way.

However, that’s obviously not what this chair was designed for, so I can’t complain too much.

Aside from that, these armrests are pretty standard compared to armrests found on higher-end racing-style gaming chairs.

Price

As a high-end gaming chair brand, you’ll need to pay a premium for Secretlab chairs. The Secretlab Titan comes in at just under $400, which is definitely more expensive compared to the average gaming chair price

That said, you get what you pay for. Compared to most cheaper gaming chair brands, the Secretlab Titan definitely offers a better overall experience. It uses higher quality materials, meaning it’s more durable and will last you much longer. In addition, it has some high-end features, such as built-in lumbar support, which is important for long-term posture correction.

In terms of gaming chairs, the Secretlab Titan is one of the best out there. The only thing you’ll need to consider is if it’s a better fit for you than a similarly priced traditional office chair. While office chairs at this price point will likely be more ergonomic and have more adjustability and comfort options, they’ll lack the aesthetic and recline features that make the Secretlab a multi-purpose chair for gaming, getting work done, and lounging.

Secretlab Titan Review: Buying Experience

When purchasing a gaming chair, many people overlook the overall buying experience. This is especially true for cheaper gaming chairs.

However, if you’re planning on investing in a premium gaming chair you plan to keep for many years, you’ll want to consider factors such as shipping, assembly, warranty, and return policy.

Shipping

In terms of shipping, Secretlab typically delivers within 3 business days in the United States. They use either FedEx or UPS, so you’ll have access to tracking information. If you’re outside of the United States, then it may take longer and you may face delays depending on their stock and availability. However, I had no issues with shipping whatsoever.

Upon delivery, I found the box was rather large and heavy, weighing about 80lbs. I definitely found this box bigger than most other gaming chairs I’ve unboxed.  I would suggest having a friend assist you with it, especially if you need to bring it upstairs.

Aside from that, the chair was really well packaged, with no damage to any of the components.

Assembly

Overall, the assembly process for the Secretlab Titan was pretty straightforward. Despite not being the handiest person, it still only took me about 20 minutes to assemble alone.

Included in the box is an oversized piece of cardstock with step-by-step assembly instructions and helpful diagrams, which was extremely helpful. You won’t have to worry about straining your eyes to see tiny diagrams as you do with most other furniture, which is nice.

Aside from that, the actual assembly of the components was a breeze. Since the parts are all high quality, everything just fits into place as it should with no excessive force required. Many components on the chair were already pre-screwed, meaning you don’t have to worry about which type of screw goes where.

All of the tools required for assembly were included in the box, so you don’t need to worry about using your own tools. The tools themselves were actually pretty high quality themselves, so I definitely held onto those.

Warranty

Secretlab offers a 3-Year limited warranty on their products which covers all functionality portions of the chair. However, this warranty does not cover aesthetic defects and damage from the misuse of the chair. You can learn more about Secretlab’s warranty policy here.

Return Policy

Secretlab offers a 49-day return/refund policy if your unit is defective or does not meet Secretlab’s quality standards. If you’re unhappy with your purchase, you can freely return the chair, though you may be subject to return fees. You can learn more about Secretlab’s return policy here.

The Bottom Line

If you’re in the market for a premium gaming chair, then the Secretlab Titan is definitely something you should consider. While it’s not the most affordable option on the market, it offers one of the best overall experiences in any gaming chair. Whether you’re a hardcore gamer or someone who just wants to kick back and relax, I think this chair could be a great fit.
