Best Gaming Chairs for Heavy & Fat Guys

Best gaming Chairs for fat and heavy people

If you are on the bigger side, it can often be difficult to shop for a gaming chair. Have you ever bought a gaming chair online only to find it just wasn’t built with you in mind?

A gaming chair is an investment, and it would be unfortunate to invest so much money in something only to see it give out after a few months because it couldn’t support your weight. Trying to fit into a chair that isn’t made for you will only cause discomfort and back problems, but don’t worry, there are plenty of good options on this list to choose from. Whether you are in the market for a high-end chair or are looking for a budget option, we have you covered.

The Best Gaming Chairs Heavy & Fat Guys

Secretlab TITAN XL – Editor’s Pick

The Secretlab TITAN XL is the most adjustable and durable chair for big and fat guys but comes at the cost of a more expensive price.

The Secretlab TITAN XL has a weight capacity of 220 to 390 pounds. The build quality is on par with other high-end chairs, and Secretlab claims that this chair has been tested to be able to withstand up to 200,000 repetitions. The frame of the chair is constructed with steel, and the racing-style seat and backrest are made up of Secretlab cold cure memory foam.

The chair comes with a memory foam headrest pillow that is made of the same cold cure foam like the rest of the chair.

For the upholstery, you have the choice between Secretlab’s PRIME™ 2.0 PU leather, or Secretlab SoftWeave® Fabric. The 2.0 PU leather is TÜV tested to be 4 times more durable than standard PU leather. The 2.0 PU leather is also sweat and abrasion-resistant.

The seat is 22.6 inches wide and features the sloping sides typical of racing-style seats, although these are slightly less steep than a standard racing seat. The seat is wide enough for the sloped sides to not restrict the seating area.

This chair features 4D armrest adjustability, which virtually eliminates any concerns with having to keep your arms in an uncomfortable position. This chair also has a multi-tilt mechanism which allows you to adjust the angle of the seat separately from the backrest. The backrest can recline from 85 to 165 degrees.

The Lumbar support is integrated into the chair instead of being an external support pillow, many of which are too big to be of any use to those with bigger builds.

Pros:

  • High-quality materials.
  • High-end adjustability features.
  • Integrated Lumbar support.
  • Can accommodate many weights and heights

Cons:

  • Fairly high price for a foam gaming chair.

RESPAWN RSP-400 – Best Budget Gaming Chair for Fat & Heavy People

Budget Pick
RESPAWN RSP-400

The RESPAWN RSP-400 is an excellent racing style gaming chair designed for big and tall individuals. It has a sturdy design that can support up to 400lbs.

Buy on Amazon

The Respawn RSP-400 is one of the cheapest gaming chairs for heavier people on the market but sorely lacks in some departments and may not be the best fit for taller individuals.

The RSP-400 can support up to 400 pounds and stands on a PVC base. The chair features a racing-style seat with two support pillows for lumbar support and neck support respectively. The front lip and sides of the seat are made up of a hard material and may dig into the legs of bigger people during periods of extended use.

The chair is upholstered in bonded leather, which is a mix of real and PU leather. The RSP-400 has four color options to choose from, including blue, green, grey, and red.

The chair features 3D armrest adjustability and a 130-degree tilt on the backrest. The seat sits fairly low to the ground and the height adjustment mechanism doesn’t lift it much higher. This combined with the shorter backrest makes the chair harder to recommend for people 6’0” and over.

The backrest tilt mechanism and height adjustment cylinder are delicate and there are reports of them giving in after 6 months of heavy use, although these issues are covered in the limited lifetime warranty. Other aspects of the build like the base being constructed with PVC make the chair a lot less durable than the mid and high-end price range chairs.

Pros:

  • Low price for the 400-pound weight capacity.
  • A fair amount of adjustability for the low price.
  • Comes in a nice variety of colors.
  • Comes with a limited lifetime warranty

Cons:

  • Cheap build quality.
  • Restrictive racing-style seat and lumbar support pillow.
  • Not a good fit for taller individuals.

GTRACING ACE Series – Best Value Gaming Chair for Fat & Heavy People

The Gtracing ACE series chair is a high-quality chair for a good price, but not necessarily the best chair for bigger people.

The Gtracing ACE series is built with breathability in mind. The chair is made with cold-cured foam that keeps its shape quite well, and PU leather that is durable and soft. The base of the chair is made up of sturdy aluminum.

Like other mid-price range chairs, the Gtracing ACE series features removable lumbar support and headrest pillows, but everything else about the chair is fairly high quality.

This chair features 4D armrest adjustability and a wide 90 to 170-degree backrest reclining range. The chair is durable and the backrest locking mechanism and height adjustment cylinder hold up even after heavy use. For a chair of this price, 4D armrest adjustability is rare and it goes a long way in improving the ergonomics of the chair.

Even though the chair can hold up to 350 pounds, the actual seating area of the Gtracing ACE series is only about 14 inches wide. This small seating area combined with the racing-style edges of the seat make the Gtracing ACE series less viable for big and fat guys than other chairs on this list.

Pros:

  • High build quality for the price.
  • Good adjustability for a mid-price range chair
  • Good breathability

Cons:

  • Not the best option for bigger individuals.

Herman Miller Aeron Size C – Best Mesh Gaming Chair for Fat & Heavy People

The Aeron by Herman Miller is a high-end chair made of mesh that uses pellicle suspension to achieve even pressure distribution and fully support many different body types.

Size C, the largest size available for the Aeron, can support up to 350 pounds and can accommodate heights up to 6’6”. The chair is highly customizable, with many different options available for every aspect of the chair.

The chair is very durable, and the various mechanisms in the chair will be able to withstand weights up to the weight limit for long periods of time without any noticeable damage.

The chair’s tilt mechanism allows it to move naturally with the body The tension of the tilt can be adjusted, and the reclining range can also be adjusted with an optional tilt limiter add-on. This can be useful for bigger people who may have problems with the chair reclining due to unintentionally shifting weight onto it.

The chair comes with standard lumbar support, but it is highly recommended that you purchase the adjustable PostureFit SL Support. PostureFit SL is a very finely adjustable lumbar and sacrum support system that keeps the body in an optimal posture.

The standard armrests have 3D adjustability, and but can be stationary or even removed if wanted. If you have doubts about being able to comfortably fit in the seat, removing the armrests would free up more space and improve breathability.

The base and wheels can be customized depending on the type of floor that you want to use the chair on. You can choose from standard casters for regular carpets, hardwood casters for wooden floors, or deep carpet casters for thicker carpets.

Although the Herman Miller Aeron is expensive, it is expected that a high-end chair like this would have a high-end price. If you’re looking for the highest quality mesh chair possible for big and fat guys, the Herman Miller Aeron is worth considering.

Pros:

  • Breathable and ergonomic.
  • Great lower back support system.
  • Durable and reliable.
  • Highly customizable and adjustable.
  • Great warranty.

Cons:

  • Many essential features cost extra.

The Steelcase Leap v2 is an ergonomic chair built to maintain comfort and integrity over long periods of time but has issues with a build quality that hurts its value.

The Steelcase Leap v2 is made with 100% polyester, which means it is soft enough to keep you comfortable even if you stay in the same position for hours at a time. The backrest also changes shape with your movement to support your whole back.

The tension of the chair’s reclining can be adjusted if you’re heavier and run into problems with your chair reclining under your weight too easily. The lumbar support is height adjustable, which is good for taller people. The firmness of the lower back support can also be adjusted to increase comfort over time. The armrests are also 4D adjustable, which is good to have in a chair that is aiming to maximize comfort.

The Steelcase Leap v2 can support weights up to 400 pounds. The seat on the Steelcase Leap v2 is spacious and soft, and the depth can be adjusted according to preference. Due to the seat being foam, it is a little less breathable and more firm than other chairs, however.

The chair is usable for those with bigger builds, but the breathability may become more of an issue the closer you get to the 400-pound weight limit.

The build quality is not fantastic for a chair in the mid to high price range, and it is noticeably less durable than similar chairs. The reclining is a little too rough and the armrests are a little wobbly, which makes the chair feel less solid than its contemporaries.

Pros:

  • Very comfortable design.
  • Highly adjustable lumbar support and armrests.

Cons:

  • A little too expensive compared to its competitors.
  • Breathability could be better.

Herman Miller Embody – Best Gaming Chair for Fat & Heavy People with Back Pain

The Herman Miller Embody is an ergonomic gaming chair with an adjustable backrest that mimics the shape of the human back and is solid enough to support bigger individuals.

The Embody is upholstered with 100% polyester and is designed to allow you to maintain an upright posture regardless of your body size or shape. The Embody has a 300-pound weight capacity, which is relatively low compared to others on this list but still enough to support a wide variety of people.

The back support of the Embody features a central spine with ribs that adjust to fit the shape of your spine. The backrest has a similar reclining mechanism to the Herman Miller Aeron chair, with a smooth reclining system that allows you to sit in any position. Also, like the Aeron, the tilt tension can be adjusted with a knob below the seat.

The backrest of the Embody is narrow, which is good for bigger people because it allows much more room to move around and makes the chair feel a lot more spacious overall. Similar to the backrest, the seat is also narrow. To make up for the narrowness of the seat, the length between the armrests can be extended from 12 inches to 21 inches to free up more room. In addition, the armrests are also height-adjustable.

The depth of the seat can also be adjusted through handles on the sides of the chair to give more or less room as needed.

The Embody is definitely one of the most expensive gaming chairs out there, but the unparalleled back support justifies the price.

Finally, the Herman Miller Embody comes in 22 different colors, all of which can be customized to include or omit the armrests.

Pros:

  • Complex back support that aligns with the curvature back.
  • Spacious design.
  • Wide variety of colors to choose from.

Cons:

  • Relatively low weight capacity.
  • Narrow seat.

AKRacing Masters Series – Best Heavy Duty Gaming Chair for Fat Guys

Best Heavy Duty Gaming Chair
AKRacing Masters Series Max
$465.11

The AKRacing Masters Series Max is a premium gaming chair specifically designed for big and heavy individuals. It has a weight capacity of 400lbs and features a sturdy wide metal frame, high-quality PU Leather, and comfortable cold-cured foam padding.

The AKRacing Masters Series chair is a durable chair with a broad design that easily accommodates anyone up to its weight limit.

The AKRacing Masters Series chair is upholstered with PU leather and made with cold-cured foam which gives the chair a nice firmness similar to other sturdy gaming chairs of this price. The chair features lumbar support and headrest pillows which do cramp the chair if you have a bigger build, but this problem is made up for with the seat.

The AKRacing Masters Series chair’s seat is much wider and flatter than other racing-style chairs. The sloped sides of the seat are just steep enough to give the seat shape but not enough to negatively affect the seating space.

In addition to the large seat, the backrest is also fairly tall. No matter your size, you should have no problems fitting in this chair.

Aside from that, the adjustability is actually pretty accommodating, with 4D armrest adjustability and full 180 degrees reclining with tilt locking. The chair also features a rocking feature, which adds a little more comfort in the form of freedom of movement.

The build quality of the chair is pretty solid, with a hand-welded steel frame and 400-pound weight capacity. Compared to chairs in its price range, the AKRacing Masters Series chair holds up very well and is definitely worth the price.

One thing to be wary of though, is that this chair will tip over if you lean forward too far in it. The only solution to this problem is to keep a normal posture in the chair and you should be just fine most of the time.

Pros:

  • A wide seat that is spacious enough for almost anyone.
  • Good value for the price

Cons:

  • Slightly uncomfortable during long sessions.
  • May tip over if you lean too far forward.

AKRacing Core Series EX-Wide – Best Fabric Gaming Chair for Fat & Heavy People

The AKRacing is one of the best fabric gaming chairs offering excellent comfort and premium materials, while still keeping the price relatively low.

The AKRacing Core Series EX-Wide chair serves as a cheaper fabric alternative to the AKRacing Masters Series Chair

The cold-cured foam and hand-welded steel frame of the Masters Series chair are present here, but with a fabric upholstery instead of PU leather. Whether you prefer fabric or synthetic leather is a matter of preference, and it doesn’t affect the build quality in a noticeable way.

At a weight capacity of 330 pounds, the Core Series EX-Wide chair is able to support less than the Masters Series chair. The significantly lower price of EX-Wide does help to justify the lower weight capacity. The dimensions of the Core Series EX-Wide chair are essentially identical to the Masters Series chair, with one key difference: seat shape.

The seat of the Core Series EX-Wide resembles a standard racing-style seat much more than the Masters Series, with much more pronounced sides that unfortunately limit seat space for bigger individuals. The Lumbar support pillow is also quite large, and will likely be unusable for big and fat guys.

If regular racing-style chairs are restrictive for you, I would recommend looking for a different fabric chair.

For the price drop from the AKRacing Masters Series chair, not much adjustability is lost. The armrests here are only 3D adjustable, but the chair can still recline 180 degrees and still has a rocking function.

Pros:

  • Comfortable fabric upholstery.
  • Good value for the price.

Cons:

  • The racing-style seat is too small for bigger individuals.
  • Lumbar support pillow takes up too much space

Maxnomic Dominator – Best Gaming Chair for Fat & Heavy People Under $400

Best Gaming Chair Under $400
MAXNOMIC Dominator

The MAXNOMIC Dominator is a premium racing style gaming chair by one of the most reputable gaming chair manufacturers out there, Need4Seat. It's high-quality PU leather upholstery, ergonomics, and adjustment features make it ideal for any office or gaming setup.

Buy on Amazon

The Maxnomic Dominator is a very durable chair gaming chair for the cost and can definitely support a lot of weight, but the breathability and overall comfort of the chair do suffer in exchange for the lower price.

The Maxnomic Dominator is built with standard PU leather and cold-cured foam, with a weight capacity of 350 pounds. For a chair under $400 that can support this much weight, the build quality is solid. The foam keeps its form even after heavy use and the PU leather upholstery lasts quite a while without flaking or peeling

Unfortunately, the seat is a standard racing-style seat, which means that the sides will get in the way if you are on the bigger side. The foam itself is also too firm at first and maybe a bit uncomfortable for the first few months. These two factors will make the chair feel hot and stuffy if you are bigger.

The Maxnomic Dominator is also only suitable for heights up to 6’1”, which is quite short compared to other chairs for bigger individuals. However, the chair does feature 4D armrest adjustability, which is good for a chair in this price range.

If you are in the market for a gaming chair that can support your weight, and you want something more high quality than the RSP-400, the Maxnomic Dominator may fit your needs.

Pros:

  • Durable and long-lasting.
  • 4D armrest adjustability

Cons:

  • Breathability is not great.

DXRacer Tank Series – Best Big & Tall Gaming Chair for Fat & Heavy People

Best for Big and Tall People
DXRacer Tank Series

The DXRacer Tank Series chair is spacious, durable, and comfortable. With a weight capacity of 400lbs, it's a great pick for larger individuals.

Buy on Amazon

The DXRacer Tank Series chair is spacious, durable, and tall enough for people of most heights to be able to sit comfortably in it.

The DXRacer Tank Series chair can support up to 400 pounds and can accommodate individuals up to 6’6” in height. The base is made up of aluminum and the seat, backrest, and armrests are all made of foam. The armrest has 4D adjustability and the backrest can recline from 90 to 120 degrees.

The seat is flat and wide, and while there are “wings” on the sides they are minimal and actually serve to give a nice shape to the chair. The chair comes with a lumbar support pillow and a headrest pillow but the shape of the backrest makes these optional.

The ergonomic shape and high placement of the backrest make the chair ideal for taller people.

The foam is firm but cushy enough to be immediately comfortable, and the standard PU leather does its job in making the chair soft.

The wider design of the DXRacer Tank series chair gives you lots of room to move around, which is impressive considering the high weight and height capacity. Overall, it’s a sturdy chair that doesn’t feel too overbearing to sit in.

Pros:

  • A good, comfortable fit for most weights and heights.
  • Spacious and breathable.
  • Ergonomic backrest design.

Cons:

  • Relatively expensive

How to Choose the Best Gaming Chair Fat People – Buying Guide

Ergonomics

A gaming chair needs to be designed with long sessions in mind. An ergonomic gaming chair prioritizes a healthy upright posture that can be adjusted to fit any body type. If a lumbar support pillow conflicts with your larger build or a headrest sits too low below your neck, a chair can quickly cause problems over extended periods.

A gaming chair for taller and bigger people needs to be adjustable enough to accommodate many different heights, and breathable enough to be tolerable to people of all weights.

Build Quality + Materials

For a gaming chair to be ideal for bigger people, not only does it have to be able to support large amounts of weight, but it also needs to support these weights over long periods of time. If a chair can support 400 pounds but only lasts 3 months with repeated use then it is not fit for bigger people.

The foam used in a gaming chair has to be soft enough to be comfortable, but firm enough to hold its shape under lots of weight. It is also beneficial if the upholstery is sweat resistant, as sweat is inevitable when gaming for long periods of time.

Lumbar Support

For bigger people, often lumbar support pillows are too big and cause discomfort. The ideal lumbar support for a gaming chair, in this case, would be either integrated into the chair or soft enough to not stick into the back of the user.

In the case of integrated lumbar support, it also needs to be durable enough to not move unintentionally when weight is applied to it.

Breathability

For bigger people, most chairs meant for smaller builds will feel cramped. A gaming chair for bigger people needs to have lots of seat width and material that won’t absorb too much heat. For breathability mesh chairs are ideal, but any chair with enough space would be good for bigger people regardless of material.

Comfort (seat comfort, back comfort, arm comfort)

For bigger and taller people, the main factor that goes into deciding whether or not something is comfortable is support. Armrests that wobble and seats that “deflate” under too much weight are things to look out for when deciding if a chair will be comfortable for you.

Also, you should probably avoid racing-style seats with pronounced side “wings” that stick into your sides if you are on the wider side.

Adjustability

If you are bigger, adjustability can be the difference between a chair being almost comfortable and a chair being “just right.” Things like being able to adjust seat depth or width between the armrests can free up space and make an otherwise uncomfortable chair usable.
